{"id":12516615,"date":"2020-10-07T14:58:43","date_gmt":"2020-10-07T12:58:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.etf.fr\/uncategorized\/rail-cantech-sengage-pour-la-mobilite-urbaine-canadienne\/"},"modified":"2025-09-29T17:07:29","modified_gmt":"2025-09-29T15:07:29","slug":"rail-cantech-sengage-pour-la-mobilite-urbaine-canadienne","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.etf.fr\/en\/international-en\/rail-cantech-sengage-pour-la-mobilite-urbaine-canadienne\/","title":{"rendered":"Rail Cantech is committed to Canadian urban mobility"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em><strong>Rail Cantech, ETF&#8217;s Canadian subsidiary, is installing the rail systems for the pneumatic metro at the Garage Cote Vertu maintenance and storage centre.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>This project is part of the strategic development plan of its client, the Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 des Transports de Montr\u00e9al (STM), which manages 68 km of the third-largest<sup>metro system<\/sup><\/em><\/strong><em><strong> in North America (behind New York and Mexico City). Launched in August 2018, this three-year project will enable Rail Cantech&#8217;s teams to develop their presence in the Canadian urban transport sector.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A first step in urban transport<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>With the construction of the C\u00f4te-Vertu Garage, <strong>Rail Cantech&#8217;s teams are carrying out their first project on pneumatic metro tracks.<\/strong> Initially specialising in national rail network works, <strong>they are diversifying their field of activity and adopting ETF&#8217;s multi-trade model.<\/strong> To support Rail Cantech in this new challenge, <strong>specialists have come from ETF France and ETF Chile <\/strong>to bring their skills, expertise and experience in urban transport to the local teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the Cote Vertu garage project on the orange line, another project at the Viau garage on the green line and a number of targeted initiatives on the R\u00e9seau Express M\u00e9tropolitain (REM) project, Rail Cantech is becoming a key player in urban mobility for Greater Montreal and Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-vivid-red-color has-text-color\"><strong><strong>The Cote Vertu garage, an investment in the development of the Montreal metro system<\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:23% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/news.etf.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/10\/Projet-STM-Canada-2-454x440.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1082 size-full\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>The Garage C\u00f4te-Vertu storage and maintenance centre will add <strong>10 parking spaces for metro trains<\/strong>, as well as tracks dedicated to minor and medium maintenance. This expansion will <strong>improve traffic flow and reliability <\/strong>on the orange line during rush hour. It will also <strong>ensure increased service <\/strong>in view of the various extensions that will be built in the coming years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Modelled on the Paris metro (RATP), the <strong>Montreal metro is unique in that it is 100% pneumatic and 100% underground <\/strong>due to winter conditions. This means that, in addition to laying the rails, the teams are busy installing the running tracks (concrete or metal), insulators and guide bars (for guidance and power supply), all with millimetre precision. In addition, a new track system on metal rails laid on concrete blocks will reduce maintenance costs and make the installations more sustainable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>This new type of installation, which is being trialled on this project, could then be adopted in future network extension projects<\/strong> such as the extension of the blue line or the orange line.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-vivid-red-color has-text-color\"><strong><strong>A project at the halfway point<\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:auto 60%\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>Thirty-five metres underground, 20 people are working full-time on the site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Work <strong>on the rear station tracks<\/strong>, which will connect the future maintenance centre to the main track and the workshop track on stilts in tunnel 1, <strong>is now complete.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>teams are currently working<\/strong> on the <strong>storage tracks for tunnels 2 and 3<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Work on the <strong>connecting tunnel and the track system <\/strong>is expected to be completed <strong>next year<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A <strong>carefully timed major renovation <\/strong>operation, involving the temporary closure of C\u00f4te-Vertu station, is <strong>scheduled for summer 2021<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/news.etf.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/10\/Plan-des-travaux-Rail-Cantech-Projet-STM-777x440.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1069 size-full\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-vivid-red-color has-text-color\"><strong><strong>Technical constraints mastered<\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:auto 38%\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>High levels of activity<\/strong> on the construction site complicate the project&#8217;s progress, coordination and planning. All stakeholders must organise themselves to work together without getting in each other&#8217;s way, managing the delivery and storage of various equipment and materials, all within a tunnel environment and under the strictest COVID-19 restrictions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In order to handle the logistics of components including track equipment weighing up to 7 tonnes within the restricted space of the tunnels, Rail Cantech has developed a PEGASUS-type telescopic rail-road forklift truck and has acquired a small and manoeuvrable UNAC 8TRR machine.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In order to capture as much as possible the gases and fumes produced by aluminothermic welding operations, Rail Cantech has also developed, with the support and feedback from ETF France, a double filter extractor.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/news.etf.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/10\/Projet-STM-Canada-5-587x440.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1088 size-full\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:91px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><strong>By expanding their activities in urban transport, Rail Cantech and ETF have made the promising decision to participate in major railway projects in Canada, with bright prospects for the future.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/news.etf.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/10\/Projet-STM-Canada-4-750x440.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1074\" style=\"width:418px;height:245px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rail Cantech, ETF&#8217;s Canadian subsidiary, is installing the rail systems for the pneumatic metro at the Garage Cote Vertu maintenance and storage centre.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":5,"featured_media":8851,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[119],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-12516615","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-international-en"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.5 -
