Its renovation represents a major step in supporting the city&#8217;s transition to a more efficient and sustainable transport system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Victoria<\/strong> and <strong>Sidi Gaber<\/strong> interchanges will provide connections to the <strong>future Alexandria metro<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A project to modernise the tracks and catenary system<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Worth <strong>more than \u20ac75 million<\/strong>, the contract signed on <strong>8 December 2025<\/strong> covers all <strong>track<\/strong> and <strong>catenary work on 14.1 km of the line <\/strong>(including 7.4 km of viaduct, 24 modernised stations and a new two-level depot with capacity for up to 30 trains).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project will begin in the last quarter of 2026 and is expected to take 24 months, with the line scheduled to <strong>enter service at the end of 2028.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:29px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-content-justification-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-buttons-is-layout-16018d1d wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-white-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color has-text-align-center wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/www.etf.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/CP-VINCI-Construction_Tramway-Alexandrie_120326-va.pdf\" style=\"background-color:#004488\">Read the press release<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:29px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Tripled transport capacity and halved journey times<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Al Raml tramway will offer a vastly improved travel experience with trams running <strong>every four minutes<\/strong>, <strong>journey times halved<\/strong> and waiting times at stations reduced from nine to three minutes. Transport capacity will also triple to <strong>27,600 passengers per hour<\/strong>, meeting the growing mobility needs of a rapidly expanding city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A project committed to sustainable development and local employment<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Beyond the benefits for users, the project is part of a comprehensive approach to <strong>sustainable development<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It contributes to Alexandria&#8217;s transition to a \u2018green city\u2019 by promoting low-emission transport, encourages local job creation throughout the construction phase, and will also support the local economy during the future operation of the network. ETF Egypt continues its commitment to training and knowledge transfer, in collaboration with local authorities and the French University in Egypt <strong>(UFE).<\/strong> The training activities carried out will prepare local teams for the country&#8217;s future railway challenges.
