Replacing them was essential to ensure the reliability of the network. Line 4, which is fitted with a pneumatic rolling system, incorporates more equipment than a conventional steel-railed track \u2014 a feature that made the entire operation more complex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To maintain the pace of a round-the-clock operation, 30 staff members from ETF\u2019s \u00cele-de-France branch were deployed to the site, working in eight-hour shifts. ETF Services ensured the safety of all movements by deploying lorry operators, who were responsible for monitoring the movements of the rail-road excavator, accompanying the machinery and securing the work areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The sidings and the temporary service (SP): quiet infrastructure that safeguards the service<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Part of the project involved the refurbishment of two tracks that are invisible to passengers but are vital for the smooth flow of traffic. The first is a sidetrack \u2013 a piece of infrastructure that allows a faulty train to be parked whilst in service without having to take it directly to a workshop. The second track is a temporary service track. It enables trains to be turned back in the event of an incident on the line, so that services can be partially maintained on the operational sections and only the section affected by the incident is suspended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Installing track equipment in a tunnel: the technical challenge at the heart of the project<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The tunnel\u2019s particularly narrow layout was the main constraint of this operation. As it was impossible to transport pre-assembled units, the teams carried out the complete assembly of the equipment directly on site \u2014 a technically demanding task requiring precision in execution and meticulous coordination between all those involved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prior to this, the RATP carried out on-site measurements, then carried out an initial assembly in the workshop to check that the equipment met the required specifications. The equipment was then dismantled, packed into crates and transported by works trains whilst the line was closed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Meticulous preparation: the key to success<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Behind this high-impact operation lies rigorous, advance planning. This included a structured tender process, a precise assessment of operational requirements, the deployment of the five maintenance trains, the calculation and delivery of all necessary supplies, and the mobilisation of equipment (including an auxiliary crane and a rail-road excavator).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From 20 April to 1 May, ETF teams worked tirelessly, round the clock, on the Les Halles \u2013 Barb\u00e8s-Rochechouart section.
