To keep pace with this development, CFL has undertaken major work to optimise its network. This is particularly the case on the border line between Luxembourg &#8211; Bettembourg &#8211; Thionville. Faced with major delays and heavy traffic, the Luxembourg infrastructure manager decided to build a new line between Howald and Bettembourg, in addition to the existing one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The work being carried out by ETF Luxembourg is part of this vast project and consists of the following<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Track work on a second passenger platform at the Howald peripheral station and the connection to the new Luxembourg-Bettembourg line<br>Adapting the track installations at the Luxembourg marshalling yard.<br>Adaptation of the track installations for the southern access to the CRM.<br>The overall project involves renewing 11 km of track and 49 switches. In total, this will involve almost 35,000 hours of work in various phases between January 2024 and August 2025. At the start of the year, ETF Luxembourg teams began work on the project by removing all the tracks in an initial zone, before making way for the earthmoving companies. The first major phase of the works will begin in mid-May and last until mid-September 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a major and structuring project for the ETF Luxembourg agency, which can count on its know-how and expertise to meet this challenge. It will also be able to count on the support of the Travaux M\u00e9canis\u00e9s agency, which will be lending a hand with tamping operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-f2d6222646f8ce7535f39339603d4539\" style=\"color:#004488\">Details of work carried out by ETF:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Removal of old track installations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Supply of rails, sleepers and ballast<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Installation of new track installations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ballasting, tamping and stabilisation of the new track installations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Welding, loosening and grinding of new track
