{"id":5567,"date":"2020-01-28T14:23:56","date_gmt":"2020-01-28T13:23:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.etf.fr\/?p=5567"},"modified":"2021-07-29T14:17:58","modified_gmt":"2021-07-29T12:17:58","slug":"375-km-of-rehabilited-railways-in-uganda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.etf.fr\/en\/international-en\/375-km-of-rehabilited-railways-in-uganda\/","title":{"rendered":"375 km of rehabilited railways in Uganda"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>ETF, in consortium with SOGEA SATOM (VINCI Group), has just signed a contract for the rehabilitation of the railway connecting the cities of Tororo and Gulu in Uganda <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Currently unexploited, this single metric gauge railway built between the years 1910 and 1930 will be rehabilitated over its entire way (375 km).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This major project is set up by the government of the Republic of Uganda with the participation of European funds. Its purpose is to improve socio-economic growth in the north of the country. The rehabilitated axis will allow the northern regions, located around Gulu, to join the main Kampala &#8211; Mombasa (Kenya) railway and develop the rail freight transport service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Site detail:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Dismantling of all 375 km of track<\/li><li>Repair of the entire platform under ballast<\/li><li>Production and installation of 200,000 m3 of ballast<\/li><li>Repair or replacement of tracks, sleepers and track devices<\/li><li>Rest of the 375 km of the rehabilitated track<\/li><li>Ballasting and tamping for its return to service<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Materials to replace or renovate:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>2,700 bars of 12 meters <\/strong>of BS60 tracks<\/li><li><strong>105,000 <\/strong>metal sleepers<\/li><li><strong>14<\/strong> track devices<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In parallel with the main works: the sanitation will be rehabilitated, various structures of the line will be consolidate and service tracks will be built in the stations of <strong>Mbale<\/strong>, <strong>Soroti<\/strong> and <strong>Lira<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"446\" height=\"535\" src=\"https:\/\/www.etf.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Carte-trac\u00e9-446x535.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5568\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.etf.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Carte-trac\u00e9-446x535.png 446w, https:\/\/www.etf.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Carte-trac\u00e9-208x250.png 208w, https:\/\/www.etf.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Carte-trac\u00e9-329x395.png 329w, https:\/\/www.etf.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Carte-trac\u00e9.png 747w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 446px) 100vw, 446px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To carry out this project, ETF mainly intends to use local workforce. In total, around 400 to 500 people could be recruited.
