ETF Polska has modernised the railway line in the Opole region of Poland

Since February 2023, our Polish teams have been carrying out modernisation work on railway line no. 287, linking Opole Zachodnie to Nysa in Poland. The project involved renewing 1.17 km of track, rebuilding two points and modernising a level crossing.

The project is also notable for its respect for the railway’s heritage. At Szydłów station, historic devices once used to manage rail traffic have been preserved, highlighting the region’s heritage. At the same time, modern equipment has been installed at Komprachcice, where particular attention has been paid to integrating it harmoniously with the existing infrastructure. The new facilities are now linked to the centralised control centre at Łambinowice station, enabling optimised management of rail traffic.

The worksite encountered some major challenges, including a flood in October 2024, which disrupted the supply of materials and the mobilisation of employees. Despite these unforeseen circumstances, ETF Polska, together with its partners PRK Wrocław and OLIKOL Rail Energy, demonstrated exemplary coordination to keep to the original schedule.

As soon as the line reopened on 20 November 2024, users were able to take full advantage of the modernised infrastructure. In Szydłów, the renovated platform and track 3 are now in service. At Komprachcice, the work has made it possible to re-establish train crossing capacity, improving the fluidity and punctuality of journeys. These improvements also benefit military transport, by facilitating logistical movements for a nearby military unit.

The success of this project has been unanimously acclaimed by the customer PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. , confirming the expertise and know-how of ETF’s Polish teams. By modernising railway line no. 287, ETF Polska is helping to strengthen not only local mobility, but also Opole’s regional connectivity.
