Optimising the replacement of rail fasteners
ETF is innovating on the Serquigny-Oissel site by adopting a 100% mechanised method for replacing fasteners and rails. The aim is to improve efficiency, reduce drudgery and optimise output.
A major rail project
From April 2024 to February 2025, the ETF teams will be involved in :
- Replace 90,000 rail fasteners
- Renew 32,832 metres of rail
This strategic project will improve the safety and performance of the rail network while limiting traffic disruption.
A mechanised method for more efficient rail maintenance
Traditionally, replacing fasteners was a tedious manual task. ETF has revolutionised the process by combining several technologies:
- Vacuum cleaner for quick release of sleepers
- Compressed-air picks (3500 L/min) for ultra-fast cleaning
- Hand blower to remove remaining debris
- Cleanspace® ventilated masks for optimum operator protection
A positive impact on performance and working conditions
This approach made it possible to :
- Replace 520 fasteners for a much lower yield using conventional methods
- Significantly reduce fatigue and musculoskeletal risks for employees
- Plan to ramp up to 1,000 attachments/night
By meeting the technical requirements of the tender with this innovative method, ETF is continuing to optimise its rail projects.
ETF is committed to modernising rail maintenance while improving working conditions in the field!
