THE SERVICE TRACKS AT ST-LAZARE STATION ARE GETTING A MAKEOVER
A project at the heart of Parisian urban development
For nearly 10 years, the urban modernisation of the Batignolles district in Paris has involved the relocation and reconstruction of several railway infrastructures adjacent to the district, particularly at Saint-Lazare station.
The ETF Centre/Île-de-France teams have carried out several projects that make up this project, with the final phase scheduled for completion at the end of 2021. These works, undertaken by SNCF Réseau, also aim to renovate and modernise the service tracks used by trains running on the Paris-Normandy line. Facilitating the preparation and maintenance of trains on the Paris-Rouen-Le Havre and Paris-Caen-Cherbourg lines will improve traffic flow and regularity.
Unwavering commitment in a highly dense area
This project mobilised around 50 operational staff who worked in shifts over eight weeks on different phases of the project:
- three weeks in an area outside the RFN
- four weeks working nights and weekends
- the final week was carried out during a long traffic interruption, which concluded with the commissioning of the entire project on Friday 5 December at 7 a.m.
The teams renewed 600 metres of track/ballast, created 110 metres of track, installed two sets of points and simplified a third. The quality of the work and the fact that it was completed on time were praised by the client, ITIF (SNCF Réseau), which was able to restore traffic as announced to users.
ETF synergy for operational success
The operational teams from the Centre/Île-de-France branch were able to count on the support of the Mechanised Works Branch for tamping and the use of a PEM-LEM system for installing the points, as well as the Feroway teams in charge of work train traffic and railway safety.
