On 10 March 2025, a symbolic milestone was reached in the extension work on line 3 of the Marseille tramway. The ETF teams tightened the last bolts, finalising the connection of the rails on Rue de Rome and those on Place Castellane.
The event was attended by Martine VASSAL, President of the Aix-Marseille-Provence Metropolis and the Departmental Council of Bouches-du-Rhône, Catherine Pila, Vice-President of the Metropolis and President of the RTM, Solange BIAGGI, Metropolitan Councillor for City Centre Businesses and CIQ Aménagement, and Benoît PAYAN, Mayor of Marseille.
While the final finishing touches are being applied, this tramway extension promises to bring about a lasting transformation of mobility in Marseille. From the end of 2025, it will facilitate connections between the north and south of the city.
Our teams carried out the studies for this project for the Aix-Marseille-Provence Metropolis from January 2022, and then started the construction phase in January 2023. This project aimed to extend the tram network by 15.7 km, spread over three strategic areas :
- The Dromel-Montfuron SMR: 3.5 km of tracks dedicated to train maintenance and storage.
- The North Extension: 3.6 km of tracks and three new stations to serve rapidly expanding neighbourhoods.
- The South Extension: 8.8 km of tracks and nine new stations connecting southern neighbourhoods to the city centre.
Some key figures:
- 2,000 welds made
- 80,000 bolts tightened
- 20,000 sleepers laid
- 20,000 m³ of low-carbon concrete poured
