Tram T10, a first symbolic weld

Publié le 8 October 2024

A symbolic milestone was reached on 7 October 2024 at the construction site of the future T10 tram line in Lyon with the completion of the first rail weld. This event marks the start of the laying of the 8 km of double track, which means more than 1800 welds! Carried out using an aluminothermic process, it consists of connecting the rails to each other. This metallurgical contribution has the same steel grade as the rails, guaranteeing the continuity and solidity of the tracks for a sustainable infrastructure.

To celebrate this event, the project stakeholders gathered, alongside Bruno Bernard – President of the Métropole de Lyon and SYTRAL Mobilités, Vanina Nicoli – Prefect Secretary General of the Rhône Prefecture, Grégory Doucet – Mayor of Lyon, Christian Duchêne – Mayor of Saint-Fons, and Michèle Picard – Mayor of Vénissieux.

Ultimately, this new line will link the multimodal transport hub at Vénissieux station to the Gerland area, while also serving the town centre of Saint-Fons. It is part of the development of sustainable mobility solutions enabling tens of thousands of residents to travel in a carbon-free way.
