A multi-trade ETF construction site between Nevers and Cosne-sur-Loire
In view of the wear and tear on the infrastructure and changing mobility needs, this modernisation is essential to strengthen regional connectivity and support the dynamism of the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté and Auvergne regions.
A two-year structural project
Spanning two years (2024-2025), the project will draw on multidisciplinary expertise and significant technical resources to sustainably rehabilitate this 56 km section. In addition to replacing the rails and ballast, additional work is planned to improve the railway environment:
- Rehabilitation of platforms,
- Development of access tracks,
- Hydraulic redevelopment and treatment of invasive species,
- Securing level crossings.
Phase 1, carried out mainly at night, enabled preparatory and related work to be completed, with around 90% of the tasks finished by the end of 2024. The aim of this work was to secure access and tracks for GOP teams and to renew tracks in specific areas, such as near level crossings, where standard ‘rapid follow-up’ modernisation methods are not suitable.
Phase 2 of the project began in January 2025 and focuses on track regeneration, using the TEVO factory train, a track cleaning machine and a rail train. ETF’s Major Projects teams plan to complete this phase in May 2025. Local teams will then return to the site between September and December to complete the work.
Mobilising multidisciplinary expertise
*To carry out this major project, ETF has brought together several of its agencies (South-East, Champagne, Suite Rapide Zone Dense) as well as its agencies specialising in civil engineering and signalling, catenary systems and railway safety services (FEROWAY). Two external partners, CLMTP and SERPE RAIL, are contributing their specific skills to the project. At the peak of the project, no fewer than 500 professionals will be mobilised, reflecting the complexity and scale of this operation.
This project illustrates ETF’s commitment to using its technical expertise to promote safer and more sustainable regional mobility.
