Work resumes on the Cairo metro construction site
Around the world, Covid-19 is affecting our railway construction business, which is essential to a country’s economic life. Since the beginning of this health crisis, our priority has been to review and rethink our organisation to enable us to continue operating while ensuring a safe working environment for our teams and stakeholders.
Phase 4B and Phase 3 projects for the Cairo Metro have gradually resumed after a several-day interruption due to the Covid-19 epidemic.
Numerous preventive measures have been implemented to ensure that teams can work safely:
- Training staff in protective measures and raising awareness of the importance of limiting human contact as much as possible.
- Each base camp is disinfected daily, masks and hand sanitiser are distributed, and temperature checks are carried out.
- Our teams hold daily prevention sessions on the risks associated with the virus and how to avoid them. These points are also discussed during the first five minutes of each day.
In terms of production:
- For the Phase 4B depot: 950 metres of track have been tamped since work resumed on 28 March and approximately 500 metres of track have been laid.
- For the Phase 4B main line: our teams are continuing with the finishing touches.
- For Phase 3: the first 150 metres of concrete track for the project have been poured.
