Commencement of work on the 4B extension of the Cairo Metro
ETF, the contractor for the construction of Cairo Metro Line 3, is currently completing phase 4A and beginning construction of extension 4B after completing phases 1 and 2.
This new 5 km phase 4B of line 3 will be entirely above ground. It includes the creation of four new stations and a major central depot for the entire line.
This will be the largest depot ever built for a metro in Egypt. It will have nearly 15.5 km of various tracks and around 60 pieces of track equipment.
Work on the main line began in May 2018 and will last for one year. Work on the workshop will begin in August 2018 and be completed in November 2019. In total, between 65 and 160 people will be involved in this project every day.
The aim of this 4B extension of Line 3 is to enable passengers to reach the very centre of Cairo from the multimodal hub on the city’s eastern ring road.
