Rail Cantech to build Confederation Line extension rail system in Ottawa
Rail Cantech, ETF’s Canadian subsidiary, has been selected by the KEV consortium (Kiewit-Eurovia-VINCI) to carry out the entire installation of the railway system for the east and west extensions of the Confederation Line in Ottawa (Ontario, Canada).
Project presentation

The extension of the O-Train light rail system is one of the most significant infrastructure projects funded by the City of Ottawa (owner), the Province of Ontario and the Government of Canada. Once completed, it will completely transform the way people travel around the city. With more than 44 km of additional track and 24 new stations, 77% of residents will live within 5 km of a light rail station.
This extension project includes three extensions: south (Trillium line), east and west (Confederation line).
Rail Cantech joins forces with the KEV consortium for the Confederation Line
- The eastern extension covers 12 km and will include five new stations.
- The western extension covers 15 km and will include 12 new stations.
The Rail Cantech teams will begin work on the railway tracks in 2021. The work will take approximately three years, until 2024. These extensions are scheduled to enter service in 2025.
