ETF’s synergy to help modernise the Ligne des Horlogers
Acting as agent, La Champenoise is carrying out the renovation work linking Besançon in the Doubs to La Chaux-de-Fonds in Switzerland. Thanks to its expertise and a competitive technical bid, the project was successfully won on a best-bid basis, exceeding the expectations of its customer SNCF Réseau.
This major project, representing a total investment of 53.5 million euros, is the fruit of collaboration between the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté Region, the French State and SNCF Réseau. Champenoise has been awarded €8 million of this contract worth around €19 million, marking its biggest project of the year and its ambition to become a benchmark in south-eastern France.
Champenoise is delivering a turnkey project to its client, mobilising several agencies to ensure its success, including ETF Travaux Mécanisés Sud-Est, Travaux Mécanisés Atlantique, Travaux Mécanisés France, GC SIG and Feroway, and benefiting from the synergy of the VINCI Group with Vermot TP on the Eurovia side.

These major works, scheduled from 4 March to 8 July 2024, are being carried out on a closed line, ensuring optimum safety for the teams and the quality of the end result. Champenoise’s mission is to optimise the performance of the rail network while guaranteeing the regularity and safety of journeys.
The project in a few figures
- renewal of 22.5 km of track
- replacement of 9 turnouts
- 2 km of platform undergoing major refurbishment
- making Besançon Moullière station accessible to people with reduced mobility for the civil engineering section
Feroway’s dedicated rail safety teams worked alongside the construction teams throughout the project. In particular, they ensured the closure of level crossings and the safe derailment of site machinery. They also played a key role in the smooth running of the works by managing the routing and operation of the work trains.
Aware of the environmental challenges, Champenoise is incorporating measures that respect the protected areas crossed by the line, and is committed to obtaining the environmental label for the worksite.
ETF would like to congratulate its teams who have worked so hard to win this contract, and would also like to wish its operational teams an excellent start to the work ahead.
