An exemplary construction site at the heart of the Breton railway network

Publié le 16 May 2025

After nine months of work, teams from ETF Atlantique’s Nantes division have completed track regeneration work on the Plounérin–Brest line, commissioned by SNCF Réseau Infrapôle Bretagne–Pays de la Loire.

Spread over 90 km, this project enabled the regeneration of 20 km of track without interrupting daytime traffic. In order to minimise disruption and ensure continuity of service for users, the work was carried out at night. The operation was carried out with precision and responsiveness. Our teams used a screening machine to save 3,000 m³ of ballast and thus recycle the old ballast by cleaning it, making it directly reusable on site.

Launched in September 2024, our teams are completing this project with:

  • Exemplary safety : zero accidents resulting in lost time
  • Excellent schedule control, with a one-week lead over the initial schedule
  • Structural regeneration of the Breton rail network, with 12 km of rail renewal, 8 km of ballast renewal and removal of three sets of track equipment
  • Maintenance of rail traffic during the works
  • A circular economy = 4 500 tonnes of recycled ballast
  • A positive local impact: 30 000 hours of work carried out by ETF with local teams, including 2 000 hours of social integration

The project stood out thanks to several notable actions that met social, environmental and logistical performance requirements. 100% of the objectives defined within the programme were achieved thanks to enhanced coordination between the various local stakeholders.

This project demonstrates ETF’s ability to combine technical performance and safety in the service of regional infrastructure and sustainable mobility.
