West extension of Strasbourg tram line F: review of an exemplary construction project
After more than a year of construction work, the western extension of Strasbourg’s tram line F is ready to welcome its first passengers. The official launch for the general public is scheduled for 15 November 2025. This project marks a major milestone for sustainable mobility in the Strasbourg metropolitan area.
Coordination at the heart of success
The project began at the end of August 2024 and required expertise in several areas: track laying, catenary systems, engineering structures and equipment integration, all in a complex and demanding urban environment. Success depended on exemplary coordination between the various stakeholders, who rigorously managed each phase of the project to meet deadlines and guarantee quality.
A human and technical adventure
This project was marked by strong collective momentum. Many employees joined the project, including teams from the national rail network, who are now fully integrated into urban construction methods. This diversity has enriched the teams’ expertise and strengthened inter-professional synergy within the teams.
A tangible impact for travellers
With this 4 km extension connecting Eckbolsheim and Wolfisheim to the centre of Strasbourg, Line F will see a significant 35% increase in passenger numbers. This development confirms the importance of public transport in the ecological transition and the quality of urban life in the metropolis.
A sustainable and innovative construction site
Throughout the project, ETF implemented environmentally friendly solutions: hybrid machinery, short supply chains, electric tools and enhanced carbon monitoring. These commitments earned the project the VINCI environmental label, a guarantee of responsible construction.
