Joint expertise for regional railway modernisation PDIFer project : Poitiers–Limoges line
ETF, acting as agent, is carrying out work for its client SNCF Réseau on section 1 Saint Benoit – Lathus (86) of the Poitiers-Limoges line. The aim of this project is to restore the line to its original operating speeds. As part of the 2017-2030 Railway Investment Plan (PDIFer), numerous branch lines are being renovated throughout the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region.
Regeneration of a local transport line
This ambitious project aims to completely regenerate a local rail line over a 50 km section. It is a major project for the network, divided into ten sub-projects. The objective is to ensure the infrastructure’s sustainability for the next 20 years.
The project is being carried out by a consortium: ETF as the lead contractor, working in synergy with Terélian (co-contractor) and with the participation of BTPS and Unifer.
Work carried out by ETF:
- Preparation phase: detailed design, platform development, setting up of the site facilities.
- Start of main works: December 2024, with closure of the line and unloading of the long welded rails (LRS).
- Current progress: 80% of track laid.
- 10 km of RVB (ballast renewal) with platform renewal
- 11 km of RB (ballast renewal only) with platform renewal
Work carried out by Terélian:
- 35 km of ditch cleaning
- 8 km of gutter installation for water drainage
- 48 km of waterproof cord removal
- 1 waterproofing on engineering structure
Social and environmental commitment
Social integration is a key component of this project. Of the 4,500 hours of integration initially planned, 5,000 hours have already been completed with staff from the local area. This approach promotes professional reintegration while contributing to local revitalisation.
In addition, two people from the ESAT (an organisation that helps people with disabilities find work) are responsible for maintaining the site, further promoting social inclusion on the project.
Safety and quality on site
To date, there have been no accidents at work. This performance illustrates the strong commitment of all teams to complying with the golden rules of safety. The quality of the operation has been praised, both for its rigorous execution and for its exemplary human approach.
