VINCI Construction synergies for transporting materials in Chailloué!
At a time when ecological transition is becoming a priority, rail freight is the most efficient mode of transport. By reactivating links between Eurovia Route’s quarries and coating plants, ETF combines logistical efficiency, reduced carbon footprint and industrial synergy.
On the Chailloué railway lines in the Orne department, trains are running again. Three times a week, convoys carrying 1,000 tonnes of aggregates leave the quarry for the SNME asphalt plant in Tourville-la-Rivière (76). In total, these journeys, organised by ETF Services, represent the equivalent of more than 5,000 lorries avoided each year.
‘This is not insignificant,’ emphasises Tristan Collin, Director of Materials at Carrières de l’Orne. ‘Rail allows us to transport more, further, with less impact.’
VINCI Construction synergies serving local communities
In Chailloué, Thouars-La Gouraudière (79) and Saint-Varent (79), historic quarries are returning to their railway roots. In Saint-Varent, ETF has rehabilitated the line to Parthenay (79), giving Carrières Roy an advantage in serving the south-west. ‘At equivalent prices, customers no longer hesitate,’ confirms Francois-Régis Mercier, director of Carrières Roy.
Together, they reactivate lines, mobilise specialist teams and coordinate interfaces with SNCF Réseau to keep traffic flowing smoothly.
Trains as a lever for decarbonisation
Rail freight, which had been in decline for a long time, is now enjoying a resurgence. Less energy-intensive and less polluting, it helps to relieve congestion on the roads while increasing the volumes transported.
ETF is not limited to VINCI Group sites. Drawing on its expertise, the company also offers this service to external partners seeking to optimise their logistics while reducing their carbon footprint. A tailor-made offering that can be adapted to the needs of manufacturers, local authorities and infrastructure managers.
