Following the symbolic laying of the first rail on 7 February 2023 by the president of the Aix-Marseille-Provence Metropolis, ETF teams are mobilising on two fronts!

Concrete work on the first few metres has begun under the Arenc viaduct. The construction site, which began on Rue du Marché, will extend to the Capitaine Gèze transport hub. This will create a new 1.8-kilometre section and three new stations.

A second section of the project is also underway on Boulevard Schlœsing. 4.4 kilometres of track will be laid to create nine new stations. These include the Ste-Marguerite Dromel station near the maintenance and storage site (SMR), which will complete the service to the iconic Stade du Vélodrome.

On this project, the operational teams are carrying out:

  • Track and switch installation work,
  • Mineral and vegetation covering of the platform
  • Connection to the existing line.

Several types of installation will be used along the line to ensure harmony with the surrounding environment. In particular, floating slab installation will be used to protect homes from vibrations caused by passing trains.

These extensions are among the fifteen priority projects in the mobility section of the Marseille en Grand plan. They represent a real renaissance for the neighbourhoods concerned and an important lever to help decarbonise the city, ultimately saving up to 9,000 tonnes of greenhouse gases. The line is expected to enter service in 2025.e pour 2025.
