Montreuil, ETF is building the tracks of the future Maintenance and Storage Site for Tramway T1

Publié le 4 June 2024

Since January 2024, ETF teams have been working on the construction of the future Maintenance and Storage Site (SMR) railway system in Montreuil. This site will ensure the smooth operation of the Paris T1 tramway, which is being extended from Bobigny to Val de Fontenay. This extension will improve service to the eastern part of the region and facilitate connections to the existing transport network.

RATP, as client and project owner, has appointed SYSTRA as project manager to supervise the works. ETF teams will be working for 33 months to deliver the entire rail system for the site. In total, nearly 3 km of track will be built using seven different types of track laying methods. ETF will also construct around ten sets of points, as well as platforms and pedestrian walkways between the tracks.

Since the start of the project, 300 ml of track has already been laid, as well as the two combs providing access to the garage tracks. A total of 20 employees are working every day to complete the work. As the railway work is being carried out at the same time as the construction of the buildings, careful coordination is being put in place between the various trades to ensure everyone’s safety and enable the efficient delivery of materials and equipment.

This site is designed to accommodate and maintain up to 40 new-generation tram trains. It will be used for the maintenance of all rolling stock on the line. The site will house operating premises, a maintenance hall, a service station, a washing station and a storage area. It is an ambitious project that will help improve mobility in the Paris region!
