Safety and efficiency: the Paris Metro Line 15 construction site welcomes a new means of transport

Publié le 22 June 2023

On tunnel construction sites, access is via supply shafts. Operational teams are then sometimes required to walk considerable distances to reach the work area.

Since May 2023, a personnel transport wagon (WTP) has been in use on the construction site for Line 15 in Paris. As the access shaft located near the construction site has not yet been completed, it would have been necessary to walk nearly 4 km to reach the work area. With a capacity of 25 seats and fully secure, the WTP is mainly equipped with a pedestrian platform, seats and mesh guardrails.

This new equipment also helps to reduce the risk of accidents related to pedestrian traffic in a tunnel under construction. This includes the risk of falling during the journey and all the risks associated with fatigue accumulated during walking. This much faster method of transport enables more efficient logistics management and gives teams more time to carry out their work.

The health, safety and quality of life at work of our employees are a priority for ETF. We are committed to implementing and developing solutions that are as close as possible to the field. This investment has been hailed as a success by the teams who use it every day.
