The extension of tramway A to Bordeaux-Mérignac airport is ready

At the start of 2023, after more than 19 months of work, ETF is delivering the 5,473 metres of track for the A tramway extension to Bordeaux-Mérignac airport.

Wednesday 25 January was a busy day at the Carrefour des Quatre chemins. Elected representatives, operators, engineers, works companies and local residents were on hand to witness the opening of the track by empty test trains. This is the culmination of months of tireless efforts by the consortium to meet the deadlines and objectives set by the costumer, Bordeaux Métropole.

With trams running every quarter of an hour, the airport will be just 35 minutes from the city centre. This major step forward in the interconnection of transport links in the Bordeaux metropolitan area has been eagerly awaited. It will also improve services to Mérignac Soleil, a major shopping area and a major source of employment for the region. The new tram line is expected to carry more than 6,500 passengers a day. Commissioning is scheduled for the end of April 2023. To carry out this project, Bordeaux metropole was able to rely on the know-how and expertise of ETF for the track and catenary systems, and Eurovia Gironde for the civil engineering.
